10. Rottweiler

The Rottweiler is a breed of dog originally developed as a moderately sized butcher’s dog, which was used for herding cattle in the early 1900s. Rottweilers are fundamentally friendly and peaceful dogs that are willing to give their lives for their owners if necessary. They are also recommended for being around children, as they tolerate more rough play due to their higher pain threshold compared to most other dog breeds.

However, since Rottweilers are large and powerful dogs, improper upbringing, mistreatment, or inadequate socialization can lead to aggressive behavioral issues. These problems can potentially pose a threat to the lives of humans or other animals. In the past and even today, police and military forces often use this breed. Rottweilers can excel as guard dogs and family pets under suitable living conditions.

09. Presa Canario

The Presa Canario was once used in bull and dog fights, where it excelled due to its great courage and composure. It was also employed as a war dog, with the task of inflicting wounds on enemy soldiers while equipped with spiked armor. Derived from the history of the Presa Canario breed, it possesses a strong protective instinct, which can lead to issues if not properly trained. Nowadays, it has transformed into a beloved family dog, but due to its size and strength, proper training remains crucial.

08. Fila Brasileiro

The Fila Brasileiro, also known as the Brazilian Mastiff, is a dog breed originating from Brazil, originally bred for guarding and herding purposes. This breed has a uniqueness that no other dog breed has – namely, during dog shows, the judge is not allowed to touch them. The reason for this is rooted in their strong protective instinct, which can lead the dog to potentially attack even strangers when being petted.

The upbringing and training of the Fila Brasileiro are crucial. Through early socialization and firm yet gentle training, the breed can be kept under control. However, due to its innate dominance and protective tendencies, it can be potentially dangerous in the wrong hands. With the right owner and environment, though, this breed can be a loyal and dependable canine companion.

07. Bully Kutta

The Bully Kutta is a powerful dog breed originally from Pakistan. It is characterized by its prominent muscular structure and a tall yet sturdy build. In terms of its ancestors, it was used in the past for herding and hunting, but unfortunately over the years, they have been selected more for dog fighting.

Its name is owed to its size and authority. This breed often comes in white or with colorful patterns, showing internal variety. Some types may display slight variations in appearance and behavior. Consistent guidance and early socialization are crucial in their upbringing to develop them into safe and well-balanced dogs.

It’s important to note that the Bully Kutta possesses dominant and territorial instincts. If not trained and controlled properly, it can be dangerous towards other people and animals. However, despite this, for experienced and committed owners, it can be an excellent companion who are willing to put in the effort for intensive training and guidance to bring out the positive qualities of the breed.

06. German Shepherd

The German Shepherd dog breed has a rich background with a history originating from being used as a herding dog in Germany. Due to their excellent work ethic and intelligence, they are gladly employed by the police and rescue services as well. Interestingly, there exist various variations of German Shepherds, such as working line and show line versions.

Unfortunately, German Shepherds are heavily affected by the issue of overbreeding. As a result of irrational breeding practices, health problems can develop, such as nervousness or a weakening nervous system that often leads to aggression towards their own owner. Some breeders excessively accentuate the curvature of their backs towards the hind legs, which can cause severe health and mobility issues.

Despite all difficulties, properly bred and cared-for German Shepherds are excellently suited for work and as family dogs. However, it’s important for breeders to approach the development of the breed responsibly due to health and movement-related concerns, in order to preserve the health and well-being of German Shepherds in the future.

The pitbull dog breed is strong and intelligent, its history dates back to 19th century America, originally bred for herding and guarding purposes. They were later used for dog fights. Pitbulls are strong and determined, they exist in different types, such as the American Pitbull Terrier or the American Staffordshire Terrier, which is a bit more restrained and calmer dog.

Famous bloodlines also exist, for example, CH Garner’s Chinamen ROM and Zwettler’s GR CH Moses. Pitbulls are recognized for their dangerousness. In the past, they were selected for dog fights, making them prone to aggression towards other dogs. However, with proper socialization and training, they can become friendly pets. Pitbulls are mostly dangerous to other animals, but in the United States, they still top the list of fatal dog attacks because if they attack a human, the human doesn’t have much chance.

04. Tosa Inu

The Tosa Inu is a dog breed of imposing appearance that originally comes from Japan. The breed’s origins date back to the 19th century when foreign breeds such as bulldogs, mastiffs, and pointers were crossed with Japanese fighting dogs. During this period, the Tosa Inu was originally bred for fighting purposes, in which they proved to be tough and resilient warriors. The breed is loyal and devoted to its family and owner.

However, due to the strong instincts and protective tendencies present in the breed, without proper socialization and training, they can become dangerous. Therefore, it is of paramount importance for responsible owners to ensure proper training. Among the famous fighting bloodlines of the Tosa Inu are lines like “Kochi,” “Shikoku,  and “Kuma.”

These lines carry the historical and fighting traditions of the breed and possess special qualities. Although the traditions of dog fighting have declined, in some parts of Japan, dog fights are still held today, in which the Tosa Inu is also used. The fighting style of the Tosa Inu differs from that of the pitbull. While the pitbull tends to focus on completely tearing apart the opponent dog, the Tosa Inu aims more for suppression and domination.

The Bandog is originally a dog breed bred in the United States, created through the crossbreeding of mastiffs and bull-type dogs. As a result of this crossbreeding, a breed was born that possesses a powerful build and guardian-protective tendencies. Due to its excellent guardian-protective qualities, the Bandog has been gaining popularity recently. However, it’s important to know that the Bandog breed requires proper socialization and training.

Improperly handled or socialized Bandogs can become dangerous, as they combine the speed of a pitbull and the strength of a mastiff. The original purpose of breeding the Bandog was to create a dog breed that could be powerful, protective, and an ideal guard dog, which, as it turned out, was quite successful. Overall, the Bandog is a powerful and protective breed that, with the right owners and proper training, can be a loyal and effective companion.

The Caucasian Shepherd Dog was originally bred by the Russian military, using Russian shepherds and guard dogs. The goal was to create a specifically aggressive, large-sized, highly resilient guard dog that could be effectively employed in any climatic conditions, and they succeeded.  This breed is renowned for its excellent guardian-protective qualities, as well as its remarkable adaptability.

The Caucasian Shepherd Dog fiercely protects the family members it accepts and its territory. The breed is independent and strong-willed, thus requiring owners with extensive experience in handling dominant dog breeds. I’ve even heard stories where a family acquired a Caucasian Shepherd Dog, and the dog became so dominant that it would attack anyone who approached it in the yard, except for the male family member.

01. Kangal

The Kangal is a Turkish shepherd dog breed known for its loyal guarding and protective traits. Its original purpose was to protect sheep flocks, and this breed got its name from the city of Kangal located in Turkey. The Kangal adapts exceptionally well to extreme climatic conditions and challenging terrains. This breed possesses an extremely loyal and protective nature specializing in guarding the flock and its owner.

The Kangal excels at facing predators and other threats. The Kangal can be classified into three main types. The first type is the show-type Kangal, which is large-sized and characterized by a calm, laid-back demeanor, and may not necessarily exhibit strong territorial instincts anymore. The second type is more agile, lean, and athletic in build, potentially aggressive not only towards strangers but even towards children, apart from its owner.

This type is often used as a guard or fighting dog. The third type may resemble the second type in appearance, but these dogs are specialized in guarding the sheep flocks and their owners. It’s crucial to pay attention when buying a  Kangal puppy, as choosing the right type is of utmost importance, as making the wrong choice could even potentially impact human lives.
